Sectors - Food

The landscape around our market towns reinforces the dependence and associated heritage and traditions with the agricultural hinterland.

With the glamorization of food production and for the need for continued prosperity of local food production, we need to ensure that the supply of local products, there local manufacturing, and selling be it retail or restaurant.

Skillbuilders working with education professionals is keen to encourage more of our youngsters to look at farming, food retailing and catering careers. To consider the merits in the future of going into business and employing their class mates as butchers, bakers, chefs etc.developing an entrepreneurial ambition to being an artisan.

Skillbuilders high profile at festivals, events and in the home can influence a generation to value the food heritage we have been so fortunate to retain and to ensure commercially, be it with residents or visitors to our local economy that local food continues to have a sustainable future. Most recently business succession with Butchers in our town demonstrates a worrying trend, now some one else's children need to be encouraged to take over family businesses.
