TV Targets the Midlands
Britain’s Best Dish
Auditions Sunday 20th April

Britain’s Best Dish is back… and it’s bigger than ever!
The nationwide TV cooking competition to find Britain’s most mouth-watering dish is targeting the Midlands in its search for gourmet grub.
The show’s producers have selected Coventry as one of seven places in the UK to host regional auditions, and hope to attract lots of local culinary talent to compete for the £10,000 cash prize.
“The Midlands have a great mix of cultures and their food traditions represent this” said the show’s Series Producer Tom Gould, “Whether it’s a Coventry Godcake, a Northampton steamed pudding or a Birmingham balti…we’re sure there’ll be a fantastic variety of dishes to choose from”.
Last year, retired chemist John Blenkinsop from Coventry cooked his way to the national finals with a classic apple pie made from an age old family recipe. Hopefully this year someone from the region can reach the live final and perhaps even win the £10,000 prize.
The idea of the series – to be screened on ITV1 later this year – is to find the country’s tastiest home-grown recipes.
A panel of three judges – chefs John Burton Race and Ed Baines and wine expert Jilly Goolden will be coming to Coventry and asking people to pitch their dishes on camera. The amateur cooks with the most potential will then be invited to London to take part in a “cook off” live in the studio.
“We want as many people as possible to come forward. It will be a fun day” said Gould. “There’ll be no cooking involved at this stage but we want everyone to bring an example of their dish, or a photo of it or something else that will make it stand out for the judges”.
The auditions are being held at St Mary’s Guildhall, Bayley Lane, Coventry, CV1 5RR on Sunday 20th April. Anyone interested in taking part should contact bestdish@itv.com or call 09011 22 33 11.
Calls cost 25p from a BT landline. Calls from other networks and mobile operators may be higher. Lines close on the 7th June 2008 at midday. ITV cannot guarantee that all applicants will be called back. Terms and conditions available at itv.com/terms
